into all the world

Aeroplane taking the Gospel into all the worldThe 'Great Commission' given to the Church for all ages, as shown in the panel to the right, is as relevant today as it was when Jesus first proclaimed it.

In Acts 1:8 we read of Jesus promising his disciples: "... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." This sets the scene for the areas of mission namely the immediate locality, then the wider community, the nation and then the world.

As a community committed to following Jesus' teaching we respond to that call in various ways:

Local Mission

The 'immediate locality' - everything we do in church week by week.

The 'wider community' - being available to assist at the important stages of life with baptism for children, care for children and young people, marriage, funerals and comfort for the bereaved.

Mission Partners

We support a number of people who are actively engaged in 'mission' in different parts of the world. That support is both financial and with prayer. Follow this link for information and prayer needs of our current partners.

Mission Agencies

Alongside the support for our Partners we also encourage members to play an active part in the work of all Christian Mission Agencies in what ever way they feel able. Some of these are listed below and web links to others are given both on this page and our 'Links' page.

Latest prayer requests from Haiti

  • For Haitians who continue to suffer after the Earthquake that help gets to them soon.
  • The response to the earthquake and those directing that response
  • For good coordination and that good decisions are made despite the testing circumstances.
  • Tear Fund staff and partners as they deal with their own losses while still helping others.
  • The Church in Haiti to be able to give a response of love care and hope to the population.

Local Mission

The Parish have been involved in local mission in the recent past with Walk Cumbria in 2007 and a Deanery Mission in 2008. Ongoing mission is focussed on the Alpha course, which runs at least once during the year.

Each year there is a Children's Holiday Club which runs for five days at the start of the summer holidays. In the past we have used the Scripture Union materials Pyramid Rock and Champion's Challenge.

christian Aid

Both as a Church and individually we support Christian Aid in its ongoing fight against poverty and injustice around the world.

One third of the Christmas 2010 Offering will be given to this work.
